How to clean your menstrual cup?

Before using your cup

Before using your cup, submerge it in boiling water for 2-3 minutes to disinfect. Don’t let the cup touch the bottom of the pot as it can melt.

You can also do this using a dedicated sterilising cup. Put your menstrual cup in the sterilising cup and pour boiling water on top. Submerge it for 2-3 minutes and it will be ready to use.

During your period

When you’re at home or have access to necessities

Clean your menstrual cup with a mild, odorless soap. Simply lather the cup for approximately 1 minute. Rinse with clear, running water to remove any traces of soap.

Use an interdental toothbrush to remove traces of gunk in the air holes of your menstrual cup. Alternatively, you can also fill the cup with water, turn it upside down while resting on your palm, and apply pressure on the sides of the cup to push the water (and the gunk) out of the air holes.

When you’re out in public or travelling

Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before entering a public stall. Empty the contents of the cup in the toilet.

If you have a bidet or any water source, then use it to rinse the cup. You may also purchase a portable bidet for travelling.

If you don’t have an access to a bidet, then use wet wipes to clean the cup and at the next convenient time, clean the cup as per above instructions.

Be sure to empty and clean your menstrual cup at least once every 10-12 hours. Frequency changes depending on your flow.

After your period

Removing stains from your menstrual cup

From time to time, you can cook the Me Luna cup with some vinegar water or salt water. This prevents stains and deposits.

Disinfecting your menstrual cup

You should disinfect your menstrual cup before and after every period.  Simply float it completely submerged in boiling water for 3-5 minutes.

Please note that you should never boil dry or let the menstrual cup touch the bottom of the pot as it can melt. Do no leave your pot unattended.

You may also use a sterilizing cup by putting the menstrual cup in it and pouring boiling water on it. Let it sit for 3-5 minutes before draining the water.

Storing your menstrual cup

Air dry the cup completely before storage. Don’t store your menstrual cup in an airtight container as this can promote odours. It is recommended to store your menstrual cup in the pouch it came with.
